92 Armed Herdsmen Intercepted By Soldiers At Check-Points

The Guards Brigade, Nigeria Army yesterday intercepted a group of 92 herdsmen while attempting to invade the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with arms and ammunition from different entry points, an officials statement said. The suspected herdsmen, who claimed to be on legitimate movement to some parts of the FCT, could not explain what the arms and ammunition found in their possession were meant for. Captain Bashir Jajira, the Guards Brigade spokesman, who issued the signed statement, said the weapons found in the vehicles used by the herdsmen range from pump action rifles to to knives and assorted charms. According Captain Jajira, "A group of 36 herdsmen in Diana truck and Toyota with registration number ABJ KUj 994 FX and Niger SUL 541 XA were intercepted and arrested at 177 Guards Battalion by Keffi checkpoints. In the course of investigation by the soldiers at the checkpoint, the herdsmen claimed to be going to Nasarawa local government area of Nasarawa State.

Arms scam: Ex-NAF boss, Marshal Amosu, returns N2.3bn to FG

The immediate past Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu (retd.), has returned N2.3bn to the Federal Government,  The PUNCH  has learnt. An impeccable source at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission told our correspondent that Amosu issued two bank drafts to the Federal Government as part of the funds allegedly diverted by his office as Chief of Air Staff.  The source said, “I can confirm to you that Amosu has returned N2.3bn. He raised two bank drafts. One draft was N2bn while the second was N300m.” The PUNCH  had exclusively reported on February 11 that houses belonging to Amosu worth over N500m had been seized by the EFCC. In Amosu’s Badagry home, the EFCC had also recovered about $140,000 in cash The PUNCH  had also reported that the anti-graft agency recovered N381m from Amosu’s wife, Omolara. Akwa Ibom to Prosecute 9000 Workers for Alleged Salary Scam

No fewer than 9000 employees in the Akwa Ibom civil service were to be prosecuted for alleged fraudulent drawing of salaries from more than one pay point in the state.  Gov. Udom Emmanuel who disclosed this to newsmen on Monday in Uyo said the massive fraud was uncovered in the preliminary bio-metric exercise recently conducted by the office of the state Accountant-General. ``It is shocking to know that a section of the employees in the state are drawing salaries from more than a pay point. We have given the affected employees and those yet to be uncovered, the option to refund the salaries they have fraudulently taken or be prosecuted,’’ he said. The governor directed the Permanent Secretaries in Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) in the state to commence finger print verification of all employees. My Trial will Not Disturb Senate Proceedings ---Saraki

The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, has said that his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal will not interrupt Senate proceedings. He said this in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Yusuph Olaniyonu on Monday. According to the statement, the announcement by the tribunal Chairman, Mr. Danladi Umar, that proceedings in the trial would hold daily henceforth will not affect senate proceedings. It said, “Now that the trial proper has commenced and the Senate is in session, Saraki will not want the trial to affect legislative business. `I am the one on trial not the Senate. Nigeria loses over N127 billion to cybercrime, according to the Office of the National Security Adviser. The National Security Adviser Major-General Babagana Munguno says that the loss is about 0.08 per cent of the nation’s GDP. According to him, a recent report reveals that between 2013 and 2014, fraud on e-payment platforms nationwide increased by over 183 per cent This he says demonstrates that activities of hackers and cyber criminals are a threat to both the economy and security of Nigerians.

Court Remands TB Joshua's Engineers over Collapsed Building

Two engineers, who constructed the collapsed seven-storey guest house of the Synagogue Church of all Nations were yesterday remanded in prison. A High Court sitting in Ikeja ordered their remand until charges are brought against them. The engineers, Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun, had pleaded not guilty to a 111 count charge bordering on gross negligence and criminal manslaughter. The case was adjourned to next week Tuesday for hearing of the defendants’ bail applications.

10 Feared Dead in Badagry Road Accident

No fewer than 10 people were burnt to death in a road crash in Badagry area of Lagos. Police Public Relations Officer Lagos State, Dolapo Badmus confirmed this to newsmen. She said seven others sustained serious burns and injuries in the accident and had been taken to the Badagry General Hospital for treatment. The commercial bus caught fire around 10:30 pm leaving about 10 persons dead.
