Platini Football Ban Reduced To Four Years

Image
The Frenchman will be resigning as UEFA president after failing to            overturn the ban over a £1.35m payment from Sepp Blatter. Michel Platini's six-year ban for accepting a disloyal payment of £1.35m from Sepp Blatter in 2011 has been cut to four years on appeal. His lawyer said he would now resign as UEFA president after failing to overturn the ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The court ruled the French football legend was guilty of a conflict of interest for taking the money. The deal was the subject of a criminal investigation in Switzerland and was revealed by Swiss federal prosecutors last September. Disgraced FIFA president Sepp Blatter The court said its judges were "not convinced" the payment was legitimate and cited "the absence of any repentance and the impact that this matter has had on FIFA's reputation" as a factor in reaching their decision. I’m not engaged to Toyin Aimakhu’s ex-husband –Mimisola Daniels

Image
Fast rising Yoruba actress, Mimisola Daniels, became more known when it was alleged she had replaced Toyin Aimakhu in the life of her estranged husband, Niyi Johnson. In fact, so many people went to town with the gist that Niyi had got over Toyin since Mimi (as she is fondly called) entered his life. And to make the story look more credible, a picture of Niyi proposing to Mimi went viral thus making more people believe there was really something going on between the two. However, in a recent chat with  Saturday Beats , Mimi claimed the picture was a location photo taken while on set. “No, I am not engaged to him, the picture that went viral with him proposing to me happened on set of a movie,  Risk (Ewu) produced by me. He is a senior colleague and a friend. I addressed the controversy the next day when I found out it was all over the news, even Niyi Johnson did but the bloggers who went on saying I was engaged to him didn’t say it happened in a movie. We both debunked the

I make money when I’m insulted on social media –Foluke Daramola

Image
Popular Nollywood actress, Foluke Daramola-Salako, got more than she bargained for last week when she aired her opinion about gender equality as fans and foes abused her nonstop. On her Instagram page recently, she had posted that the role of a man and a woman is not the same as men are meant to be the head while women should submit to them. This did not go down well with some of her followers on Instgram as they pounced on her, abusing her and calling her unprintable names. The actress did not take it easy with them as she lashed back at them. Before long, a war of words ensued. In a chat with  Saturday Beats , the actress explained why she blew a fuse. She said, “What got me upset was the fact that there are some things people talk about but they are not able to back it up with facts. When you say gender equality, the role of a man can never be de-emphasised to the role of a woman. That is why Hillary and Bill Clinton cannot be the president of the US at the same time. Bil

I’m not sick – KSA

Image
It came as a rude shock earlier this week when news filtered on the social media that veteran juju artiste, King Sunny Ade, had died. But in a chat with Saturday Beats on Wednesday, KSA as he is popularly called, denied being ill or being admitted to the hospital. He said he wouldn’t know why anyone would go to town that he had passed on. “If I were in a hospital, I would say so. There wouldn’t have been any reason for me to lie. In fact, the hospital would also see me as a liar if I lied that I wasn’t admitted or sick. But the truth is that I have not been sick. I am hale and hearty,” he said. KSA said he wouldn’t know where the story was coming from or who could have thought of going to town with such rumours. “Don’t mind them. But they can’t kill me. God will not allow anything to happen to me. I performed at Tunji Braithwaite’s burial on Saturday night and I wasn’t ill. I am just coming from Oba Awujale’s palace in Ijebu Ode as you are talking to me. I am very healthy.

Militants list terms for truce, seek action on confab report

Image
Apparently undeterred by President Muhammadu Buhari’s order to the military to crush them, militants under the aegis of the new group, the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), yesterday demanded some conditions that should be met by the Federal Government in order to ensure peace in the Niger Delta. The group which claimed responsibility for the recent bombings of the Chevron valve facility, and the 48-inch trunk line supplying crude oil to Warri refinery has declared that it will “crumble the economy” unless its demands are met. The militants demanded the immediate implementation of the report of the 2014 national conference or the country would break up. They insisted that the ownership of oil blocks must reflect 60 per cent for the oil-producing people and 40 per cent for others and that the nation’s only maritime university located in ‘‘the most appropriate and befitting place Okerenkoko must start the 2015/2016 academic session immediately.’’ They asked the Minister of Transpo
