Wolfsburg 2-0 Real Madrid: German side record stunning first-leg win

Image
Ricardo Rodriguez and his Wolfsburg team-mates celebrate Ricardo Rodriguez struck a penalty and Maxi Arnold added a second in the first half as they gave themselves a huge advantage at the halfway point in the tie. The result leaves Zinedine Zidane's side with a real mountain to climb in the second leg at the Bernabeu next Tuesday night. For Wolfsburg, though, it was a glorious night in their first ever meeting with Real and their first ever Champions League quarter-final. Fresh from their El Clasico win on Saturday, Real started brighter and had the ball in the net after less than two minutes as Cristiano Ronaldo raced through onto Karim Benzema's pass before slotting home.  However, much to the Portuguese forward's annoyance the assistant referee had his flag raised for offside. Gareth Bale was Real Madrid's chief threat Wolfsburg were more than happy to sit back and counter-attack, with Julian Draxler and Bruno Henrique threatening down

Goalkeeper Joe Hart to return for Manchester City

Image
Joe Hart will return for Manchester City as they face the latest barometer of their Champions League progress against Paris Saint-Germain. England goalkeeper Hart has made a quicker than expected recovery from a calf injury and is set to feature in the first leg of City's last-eight tie at the Parc des Princes. "Joe has worked without any problems in the last days," said manager Manuel Pellegrini. "Of course you always have a risk, especially when you are coming back from an injury, but we made all the medical tests with Joe and he doesn't have any problems to play." Hart's return will bolster confidence in a back line that is again missing captain Vincent Kompany through injury. They will need to be on their mettle as they face a powerful PSG side spearheaded by the irrepressible Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Sweden striker has scored 30 goals in 26 Ligue 1 appearances this season and four more in the Champions League but City defender Eliaq

Aubameyang highlights

Image
This one could be interesting... We’re all pretty confident that Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be on United’s wishlist in the summer, and it looks as though the club are taking steps to make this deal happen. The forward has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs and Dortmund’s sporting director Joachim Watzke admitted last week that the Germans would listen to offers of £95million for the Gabon international. Now the Daily Mail claims that United scouts were watching the 26-year-old during Dortmund’s match against Werder Bremen on Saturday. Hopefully the club are taking it seriously because this man is the real deal! N

Kevin De Bruyne reveals he chose a move to Man City ahead of PSG last summer

Image
Kevin De Bruyne has revealed he chose to join Manchester City instead of their Champions League quarter-final opponents Paris Saint-Germain. The Belgian international joined City from Wolfsburg in August on a £54.5m deal, breaking the club's transfer record. Ahead of Wednesday's clash with the French champions, De Bruyne has revealed that his representatives had also held discussions with Laurent Blanc's side about a potential move to Ligue 1. The 24-year old has found the net six times in the Premier League this season, including on his return from injury against Bournemouth on Saturday, and he is delighted with the decision he made in the summer. How could City line up? What changes could Pep Guardiola make to side? "There were contacts with PSG. We have talked a bit, but afterwards I decided to join Manchester City, as they were a better option," said De Bruyne. "I'm really happy that I've taken the right decision.

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy is a 'fantastic horse', according to Claudio Ranieri

Image
Jamie Vardy has scored 19 goals for Leicester this season Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri has described top scorer Jamie Vardy as "a fantastic horse" as they enter the home straight of the Premier League title race. The Foxes go into the final six matches of the campaign knowing four victories will be enough to win the league for the first time in their history, having started the season as one of the favourites for the drop. Former Leicester captain Matt Elliott believes Claudio Ranieri's side coolness under pressure will guide them to the title Vardy has been one of the key reasons behind their success, scoring 19 goals, including a record run of 11 goals in successive league matches between August and November. That impressive form has also earned him his first international caps and goals for England and Ranieri was keen to highlight his thoroughbred status ahead of the  Super Sunday  clash with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Fernando Torres posts Instagram message after Barcelona clash

Image
It's safe to say that Fernando Torres had a fairly mixed evening as Atletico Madrid played host to Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday night.  The Spain international opened the scoring at the Camp Nou but was later sent off for two bookable offences in the first half.  Atletico, who led the quarter-final tie by one goal to nil at the time of Torres' dismissal, failed to hold on in the second half and succumbed to a 2-1 defeat thanks to a brace from Uruguayan international Luis Suarez. Unsurprisingly, following the contest, Torres blasted UEFA and insisted that it was one of his 'worst days as a footballer'.  After the game,  as per Sport,  Torres stated: “On the personal side I am very sad and feel very responsible. With 11 it would have been different. “It's a complicated situation for me. It's one of my worst days as a footballer. “They were two plays which could be a card or not. What's a shame is that UEFA are more worried
