1 yr old baby girl pulled out alive 3 days after - Red Cross

Rescue workers pulled out a one-year-old girl from the rubble of a building in  Kenya 's capital on Tuesday morning more than 72 hours after it collapsed following heavy rain, the  Kenya Red Cross  said. " She was rescued and was severely dehydrated. She is currently receiving medical attention at Kenyatta National Hospital, " Red Cross spokeswoman  Arnolda Shiundu  told Reuters, adding that the girl was rescued at about 4 a.m. Officials have put the death toll so far at 21. Aid workers had said on Monday that the chances of finding more survivors was unlikely after the building fell down on Friday night.

Italian court rules food theft 'not a crime' if hungry

Stealing small amounts of food to stave off hunger is not a crime, Italy's highest court of appeal has ruled. Judges overturned a theft conviction against Roman Ostriakov after he stole cheese and sausages worth €4.07 (£3; $4.50) from a supermarket. Mr Ostriakov, a homeless man of Ukrainian background, had taken the food "in the face of the immediate and essential need for nourishment", the court of cassation decided. Therefore it was not a crime, it said. A fellow customer informed the store's security in 2011, when Mr Ostriakov attempted to leave a Genoa supermarket with two pieces of cheese and a packet of sausages in his pocket but paid only for breadsticks. In 2015, Mr Ostriakov was convicted of theft and sentenced to six months in jail and a €100 fine. The father of Murtaza Ahmadi said he feared his son would be kidnapped after being threatened for wearing a signed football shirt. The father of a five-year-old Afghan boy who received signed T-shirts from his football hero Lionel Messi claims the family has had to leave the country. Mohammed Arif Ahmadi claimed they received threats over the telephone and "life became a misery" when the threats became more serious. He said: "I sold all my belongings and brought my family out of Afghanistan to save my son's life as well as the lives of the rest of the family." Mr Ahmadi said they did not want to leave Afghanistan, but he has now settled his family in Quetta, Pakistan, in the hope of a better life. 2 smugglers arrested for fuel diversion

Abiodun Onafuye, Abeokuta Two suspected smugglers of fuel have been arrested by officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Ogun State. The two suspects identified as Aminu Sanni, 30, and Aminu Muhammed, 37, were caught along Igbogila- Igua road attempting to smuggle 33,000 litres of premium motor spirit (PMS) to Nigeria’s neighbour, Republic of Benin. The petrol tanker with registration number Kastina DTS 47 XA was also impounded by the NSCDC officials. A statement signed by NSCDC spokesman in Ogun State Kareem Olanrewaju, revealed that the corps’ anti-hoarding and petroleum pump price monitoring team made the arrest, acting on a tip off. A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, has described Governor Ayodele Fayose as an ingrate for saying that he would not support him (George) to become the national chairman of the party. Ogun policemen torture father of six to death

# A mason, Adeshina Adewuyi, has been tortured to death by a team of policemen who raided his community in Itoki, Ogun State. It was learnt that the policemen, numbering about seven and attached to the Agbado division, picked up the deceased around 4pm on Saturday and ordered him to enter a bus they brought to the area. Forty-five-year-old Adeshina was said to have declined to enter the bus, demanding to know the offence he had committed. He reportedly fled but was chased and arrested. He was beaten up, bundled inside the bus and whisked away. Our correpondent learnt that he was later released around 7am with injuries on his back. The father of six was said to have been given a drug which he vomited before he died.
