My visit to the refugees, a "day to cry" - Pope

Pope Francis on Saturday (April 16) said his day visiting refugees on the Greek island of Lesbos had been a "day to cry". In one of the most emotional moments of the day the pope spent time with families in the Moria refugee centre on the island. Speaking to journalists on the way back to Rome on board the papal plane, the pontiff held up various pictures that had been given to him by the children at the camp. "In that refugee camp, it just made you cry," the Pope said. "Those children" he said picking up a picture to show the media. I brought these with me to show you. The children gave me lots of drawings. Look at this one. What do children want? Peace," he said, as he held up a drawing with a dove carrying an olive branch and the word: "peace". Nigeria flags off distribution of grains for IDPs in Adamawa, Taraba

The Federal Government of Nigeria has flagged-off the distribution of grains and building materials to Internally Displaced Persons in Adamawa and Taraba states in the northern part of the country. The Secretary to the Federal Government, Babacir David Lawal, who declared open the distribution said the gesture was part of government effort to ameliorate the suffering of the victims. Babacir who was represented by Ibrahim Bapetel, the Senior Special Assistant Policy/Strategy to the President assured victims of government commitment to their welfare. The Adamawa state camps coordinator of National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) Saad Bello who spoke with TVC NEWS at the occasion explained that relief material will be of great assistance to the victims of Taraba State communities clashes. Tears flow freely as ANC supporters killed in bus accident

(JOHANNESBURG) -- No fewer than 11 people were killed and 59 more injured when a bus transporting African National Congress (ANC) supporters from an election rally in Port Elizabeth overturned on Sunday, South African emergency services said. According to a statement by the ER24 paramedics, the bus rolled off the N1 highway between Ventersburg and Winsburg in the Free State, trapping passengers underneath the vehicle,said in a statement. The cause of the accident, after which 21 passengers were in a critical condition, is not yet known, ER24 said. President Jacob Zuma launched the ANC's manifesto in Port Elizabeth on Saturday ahead of local elections in August. Around 40,000 ANC supporters attended the event in Nelson Mandela Stadium. Female Zookeeper mauled to death by one of her Tigers

A 38 year old female employee, Stacey Konwiser who had worked at the Palm Beach Zoo for over three years and took care of 4 Malayan Tigers was mauled to death by one of the Tigers she trained on Friday. According to the Palm Beach Post, she was performing a routine procedure in the night house where the tigers sleep at about 1:45pm in preparation for her show which was scheduled at 2pm in the Zoo when she got attacked and mauled to death by the 13-year-old tiger. As soon as that happened, Animal Control was contacted about the attack but Animal Control contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission who responded to the call. Zoo officials issued a code red alert after the attack and the male Malayan tiger received tranquilizers. Visitors were all moved to a safe place and all the 250 animals in the Zoo were accounted for. There are strong indications that Nigeria’s senior team, Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi topped the list of six major players who would be allowed to seek employment elsewhere next year. Others in the six-man list pencilled down are goalkeeper Courtois, Oscar junior, Radamel Falcao, Loic Remy and Baba Rahman. Not much was divulged about why the six players are being asked to go, especially Mikel, Coutiois, Oscar who are regular players in the team till date. It appears Mikel’s refusal to sign a fresh contract until he is assured of a regular first team shirt may have contributed to his been listed in Chelsea’s clear-out document for next year, knowing that he has one year left to his previous deal with lapses in 2017.
