Image
President Muhammadu Buhari and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele moved closer to actualizing their promise to strengthen the naira against the United States dollars by signing a landmark currency deal with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Ltd on Tuesday in Beijing, China. The new agreement would see Nigeria-China trades, which accounts for over 70 percent of imports into Nigeria, concluded in the Yuan. Until now over 90 percent of international trades between Nigeria and the world is done in dollars, and in the process putting so much pressure on the naira. Arsenal need to learn Leicester's 'will to win,' says Ian Wright

That never-say-die spirit arguably helps explain why Leicester have won five of their last seven matches by a 1-0 scoreline. "How many times have I said to you about 1-0?" posed managerial great Sir Alex Ferguson after one such victory four years ago for his Manchester United team. "It means championship form. "I don't mind the 1-0s, I really don't. It tells you we are determined, we're going to defend, do the right things and play as a team." These days, Arsène Wenger's Arsenal teams are a very different proposition. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has previously described their style of football as "like an orchestra." If it's a brand of football that frequently stirs the soul, Wright says Arsenal could learn a thing or two from Leicester's title tilt. "It's their determination and their will to win -- the fact they seem to be playing with an unbelievable team spirit," Wright told CNN. "You

Chelsea will make Oscar available for transfer this summer

Image
Chelsea  have decided to make Oscar available for transfer this summer, in order to raise funds for an overhaul of the squad. The Brazil international, according to  The Times , is regarded as the most dispensable of the club’s saleable assets. Roman Abramovich is keen to stick by the club’s current transfer policy of selling before buying and it seems Oscar, who has failed to develop at the rate Chelsea might have hoped after signing him from Internacional back in 2012, is not in the plans of Antonio Conte. The Italian coach, who was confirmed as Chelsea’s next manager last week, reportedly wants to sign a new creative midfield player while retaining the services of Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Willian. The Times understand that Conte also wants to bring Juan Cuadrado back to Stamford Bridge from Juventus, where he has impressed during his season-long loan spell. Premier League must not become 'NBA of football', says La Liga president

Image
Spain's top flight must close the financial gap on the Premier League to stop it becoming "the NBA of football", says La Liga president Javier Tebas. In the 2013-14 season the Premier League  generated income of £3.26bn, compared to £1.51bn for La Liga. "We hope to grow so the Premier League does not become the biggest competition in the world and we can be at the same level economically," said Tebas. "We do not want the Premier League as a leader one step ahead of the rest." The United States' NBA is widely considered to be the leading global basketball competition and attracts the best players from the across the world. Tebas, a 53-year-old lawyer, told BBC Sport: "If we fail to do this [compete economically], the Premier League could become the NBA of football and that would not be good not for us, not for the sport. "We plan to work harder in the TV rights market and in the sponsorship market to get more money.&qu

Denying a goalscoring opportunity: Red card rule relaxed by IFAB

Image
Arsenal's Per Mertesacker (left) was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity in the Premier League match against Chelsea in January Players who commit a foul to deny a goalscoring opportunity will no longer automatically be sent off, football's rule-making body has confirmed. The previous 'triple-punishment' rule required a red card - and therefore a suspension - as well as the award of a penalty under those circumstances. However, players committing accidental fouls that deny a goalscoring chance will now be cautioned instead. But deliberate fouls will still incur a red card. Those include holding, pulling or pushing, not playing the ball, serious foul play, violent conduct or deliberate handball in order to deny a goalscoring opportunity. The change has been ratified by the  International Football Association Board (IFAB)  - a body made up of the four British football associations and Fifa - which decides on changes to the Laws of the Game.

PHOTOS: Best and Worst Movie Remakes Cameron, 61, added that he had initially envisioned two sequels to his 2009 blockbuster, but after consulting with his team of four screenwriters and a group of “some of the top artists and designers in the world,” he realized that he had way too much material to go to waste. “So far, what I am seeing in pure imagination is far beyond the first film,” he teased, noting that select few people have been given access to the initial concepts. “It’s going to be a true epic saga.” PHOTOS: Stars as
