Experimental Solar powered plane completes ninth leg

A solar powered plane on a trip around the world has completed its ninth leg when it landed in northern California late on Saturday.

The Solar Impulse 2, arrived at Moffett Airfield in Northern California just before midnight pacific time, three days after departing from Hawaii.

This is the first aircraft to fly day and night without any fuel, solely using the sun's energy.

The experimental solar aircraft began its around- the world journey in March of 2015 in Abu Dhabi, and has also made stops in Oman, Myanmar, China and Japan.

The plane's pilot, Bertrand Piccard was grateful to have the opportunity to fly the experimental plane
