Manchester City 1-0 Paris Saint-Germain (agg 3-2): De Bruyne stunner sends hosts through

The Belgian attacker smashed home from the edge of the box in the second half to make the difference against the French champions and send his side into the semi-finals
Kevin De Bruyne proved the hero for Manchester City on Tuesday as he scored to book their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League as they beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the second-leg of their quarter-final tie.

De Bruyne smashed home from the edge of the box in the 75th minute to make the difference, giving his side a 3-2 lead on aggregate.

Manuel Pellegrini will be relieved to see his side take the victory, with the Premier League side having passed up opportunities against the flat and dishevelled visitors.

City were given a golden chance to take the lead in the first half when Kevin Trapp brought Sergio Aguero down in the box, giving the referee no choice but to point to the spot and show the goalkeeper a yellow card. However, Aguero stepped up to take the resultant penalty and sent it wide of the post.

Early in the second half, SG thought they had seized the initiative when Maxwell's pass across the face of goal was knocked in at the back post by Lucas, but the assistant referee's flag put an end to their celebrations.

The breakthrough finally came after 75 minutes when PSG failed to clear a cross, allowing Fernando to take possession and square to De Bruyne on the edge of the box and the Belgian star was able to send it curling past Trapp for the vital goal.

With five minutes remaining, PSG had the ball in the net again, as Ibrahimovic diverted a cross past Joe Hart, but the linesman's flag denied them once more.
