Do not wait for government to help you – Funke Akindele tells entertainers

Award winning Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, has shared her thoughts on how the entertainment industry can be better at the on-going fourth edition of Nigerian Entertainment Conference {NECLive4}.
Funke, who was one of the panelists that deliberated on ‘Economy of Talent: Using the Entertainment Industry to Rebuild Nigeria,’ stated that  Nigerian celebrities need to work harder.
‘I believe structure matters a lot. How many of us celebrities have lawyers, good managers, and offices? Do we have websites? How big are we online? How are we imparting on people’s lives? What can they see that we have be giving back to the society? In all, I just want us to work harder and together as a team,’ she said.
Speaking further, she said, ‘We all have talent and we should come together and also help the upcoming ones. Do not wait for the government. When you work hard and you are good at what you do, people will look for you.’
She added: ‘When I started Jenifa’s Diary. I went to an agency, which I won’t mention. I thought they will be ready to do business with me because Jenifa to me was huge, but they asked me for my pilot. I had to go back to shoot 6 episodes and I started to market it all over again before I could get advert for it. Today it’s huge, it’s on Iroko Tv and people keep asking for more episodes. Keep pushing, do it well and be careful about the contracts you sign. Another point is education is important. We need to know everything going on around us. Thank you.’
